Dr. Yuly Fuentes-Medel is a catalyst of creative ideas and an ecosystem builder. She created DESCIENCE, a global collective of designers, scientists and technologists connecting the worlds of science and design. She received the 2015 Boston Business Journal “Woman to Watch” Award, and her efforts led to DESCIENCE being named one of the Bostinno “Companies on Fire”. 
She graduated with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed postdoctoral training at the MIT Sloan School in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Yuly is energetically involved in fostering international innovation ecosystems and career diversity. She is currently serving as president of the board of the Chile-Massachusetts Alliance to support the international exchange of investment, technological business, talent and social impact, a board member at FIT Infor Lab in New York, and a board member of Aji Challenge, a Chilean accelerator that fosters the success of technological companies in global markets. As a member of Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology (WEST), she received a Volunteer Giving Back award. Yuli also featured as one of the Humans of the year, nominated by Motherboard because of her creative ways to communicate the importance of science across disciplines, cultures and people.
Dr. Fuentes-Medel is also a member of the innovation committee at the MIT Enterprise Forum in Cambridge. During her time as a Ph.D. student, she pioneered the co-organization of the international workshop called “Small Brains Big Ideas” with perspectives on biomedical and invertebrate neuroscience research and held in Santiago, Chile. So far, this initiative has successfully trained almost one hundred Latin-American students.
Educated as a biochemist at the University of Concepcion in her native Chile, Dr. Fuentes-Medel is constantly in the search of opportunities to support technologies and young talent that need to make an impact on global markets.
