Since 2016, Mr. Haebig has led the cooperation program implementing the strategic alliance between the German Federal Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC. The program is implemented by the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Through the joint program, Germany supports the implementation of the Agenda 2030 in this region.
Before his assignment to Central America, Mr. Haebig led the German International Cooperation programs in the energy sector with the Central American Integration System (SICA). Between 2007 to 2013, he was responsible for bilateral cooperation programs with India, in fields like MSME finance and development, vocational training and industrial services, eGovernment, regional economic development, as well as corporate social responsibility and corporate governance. He has held expert and management positions within GIZ (formerly GTZ) in Central and South America, India and Germany for three decades. An agricultural economist by profession, he worked as strategy adviser, trainer, team leader, project implementer, desk officer, and country representative.
GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. It is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations.
